Another Dev Post Update by Striker
9:11 PM CDT
Another quick post about the stealth elements of Oblivion. - EmilPags comments on stealth in Oblivion:
"As someone who worked on the Thief series for quite a few years, I'm really personally invested in Oblivion's stealth system. (which is ironic, because it was playing a Thief in Daggerfall that got me into Thief to begin with).
Anyway, I'm obviously not at liberty to give out any specifics, but you should know that thieving/sneaking etc. is getting a lot of tender loving care is TES IV."

Unofficial Oblivion FAQ Update by Striker
2:58 AM CDT
Just a quick note to let you know that I've started a unofficial Oblivion FAQ list. This currently contains information shown in the Game Informer article. Note that there aren't any scans of the pictures or the article, and the information is in my own words.
I'll keep it up to date when new info is released.

A Few Dev Posts Update by Striker
11:16 AM CDT
Over the last day or so, some of the Oblivion developers have posted a few times on the Official Forums regarding the way they make games at Bethesda. No new information about Oblivion, but gives a great insight into how they make their games, so enjoy!
- Bluedev on the Developers taking suggestions:
"I've seen him in a suit. It wasn't as exciting as you'd think. Now, seeing him dance....
As for developers taking suggestions:
We read the forums. Sometimes there are good ideas; sometimes there are god-awful ideas. (Hmmm...kind of like our design meetings.) Some of the good ideas are already planned for inclusion, and have been for a long time. Some of the bad ideas have already been sufficiently mocked, and there's no reason to comment on them here.
It is, of course, impossible to implement every suggestion we see on these forums. However, if we see something that makes sense, and wouldn't screw up our schedule/budget/sanity, we might include it. And there's always the possibility of things being included in the future.
Short version: suggest away. "
- Pete on 'suits' dictating what goes into their games:
"1) Nobody at this company wears a suit.
2) The developers are the guys that decide what goes in the game and what doesn't. Maybe it doesn't work that way at other companies, but that's the way it works here. All this talk about the marketing guys want to do this, or the suits want to do that, is absolutely, positively not true.
There's never, ever been a time where it's even crossed my mind to ask some feature be included, or removed, or the game be made shorter or longer because it'll sell better. I think that's ridiculous. What sells is a great game. Period, end of discussion.
3) There's absolutely no chance anyone could ever make Todd do anything with this game he didn't want to do anyway. Zero chance. Again, maybe that happens at other places, it doesn't happen here. That's why I think we're a very cool company that makes cool games."
- Pete once again on with a few more comments:
"I'm not going to start getting numerous debates but I will address a few final comments.
Todd has gone on record as to why nudity wasn't included in Morrowind, due to the increase in graphics resolution, bump-mapped nipples, etc. I'm sure you can find it somewhere.
Todd will take some time to clarify some comments and address some misgivings and wrong ideas that some folks have gotten. All in due time.
QUOTE I wish Todd had played Daggerfall more
Todd made Daggerfall, he doesn't need to play it more than he already has.
QUOTE it's a simple fact that certain features were kept out of MW and will be kept out of Oblivion for the sake of a casual console player's low learning curve Morrowind was a game designed for the PC that sold well on the console anyway. We were as surprised as anyone. It wasn't dumbed down, and the console market apparently liked it anyway because they bought just as many copies as the PC folks.
Ok, that's all for now.
P.S. Thanks TopHat"
- BlueDev also talks about 'suit' input:
"I can say, with complete honesty, that I have never heard word one from Pete or anyone else outside the dev team about content I want to put in the game. I'm sure everyone else would tell you the same.
This is most important: The guys in Marketing don't hate you and want to make your lives miserable. It's we developers who hate you and want to make your lives miserable. Your pain is like candy to us.
Edit: On Sea Dogs/PotC: We didn't develop it; we published it."

Interesting News Update by Striker
6:49 PM CDT
I received this press release from Bethesda today, and I though I'd share:
Two short announcements today.
First, in response to those of you that have asked, as well as those of you that may not have heard, yes...we are up to something at www.elderscrolls.com. Details will be revealed shortly (you can probablyguess how long by the counter on the splash page). Until then, we aren'tsaying anything about what's up, but at least you won't have to wait too long.
Second, there's this little tidbit:
Bethesda Softworks today announced that its highly anticipated survival horror game, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, will be released in Q1 2005. Call of Cthulhu is a mix of horror, puzzle solving, exploration, and combat as you face the seemingly impossible task of battling an advanced race of evil aliens.
For more information on Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, visit the official web site at www.callofcthulhu.com
Looks like something is brewing!
