Vvardenfell Traveller's Guide
Vivec is one of the largest and most bustling cities on the island of Vvardenfell. Being one of the oldest cities on the island, Vivec possesses a very Dunmerish look and feel. Vivec also serves as a large port city, and many people seeking passage into Vvardenfell find themselves initially taken here. Travelers shouldn't be surprised at the impressive mix of ethnicities represented in the city, as the city has a large Imperial quarter. The Empire likes to make its presence felt everywhere.
Located on the southern tip of the island, Vivec almost literally floats upon the sea. First time visitors will be amazed at the streets that are literally made of water. Passage around the city can be had on a gondola for a few extra drakes, or on foot by utilizing the copious bridges spanning the canals of the city.
The architecture of Vivec is an interesting mix of traditional Dunmer culture, with influences from native dwellings and religious buildings, as well as some more classical city architecture. Of particular note is the large, floating comet known as the "Ministry of Truth". The comet was apparently frozen in place by the will of the god Vivec himself, and the Temple has refashioned it into a prison for dissidents.
The city is named in honor of the warrior-poet god Vivec of Dunmeri religion, who is said to reside within the city walls. The androgenous god is the protector of the Dunmer against evil forces, and has saved them from destruction on numerous occasions. Vivec keeps a careful watch over the volcano and the dangers that it represents for the people of Vvardenfell.
