Freelancer Preview
Conclusion.
There are a few parts of Freelancer that could be improved on. The NPC's in different sectors are all the same, even though you are lead to believe that they are formed by different cultures. There aren’t a wide variety of jobs available for you to perform, among others. Even with these few minor flaws, Freelancer is shaping up to be a brilliant game. Even in the Beta stage, it's very stable - it hasn't crashed once - and it looks like it will run very well on low-end machines. Freelancer doesn't pretend to be a flight sim, so if that's what you are looking for, then this game probably won't fit the bill. However, if you are after fast dog fights with an arcade feel, but with much more depth, then you should defiantly pick Freelancer up.
But how does it compare to Morrowind?
Since Destination: Morrowind is a Morrowind site, it seems fitting to compare Freelancer to the Greatest RPG Ever(tm). Even though Freelancer and Morrowind appear to be very different games, there are quite a few similarities. Both Morrowind and Freelancer have a very large game world with many places to go and thing to see and do. There are factions that will like or hate you depending on your actions, and how you treat their allies and enemies. Morrowind has much more freedom when it comes to the main story, however, Freelancer has a more life like world where you aren't the centre of it all. If the freedom of Morrowind is it's main drawing card, then you will certainly like a few things found in Freelancer. If yo prefer a tighter story (Think Morrowind's expansion Tribunal), with more life like NPC's (In space at least), then you will find quite a lot to like in Freelancer.
